“Every day individuals use faith to overcome fear. As polar opposites, fear and faith cannot exist at the same time. Fear involves a tightening of the senses whereas faith requires a complete release of control. Take these steps to learn your core fears and how to replace them with faith.”

Perhaps you are reading this blog because you know that fears keeps you stuck in at least part of your life, part of the time. From my personal life experience I can say that fear is responsible for much, if not most, frustration and failure. When we learn to work with and overcome our fears and anxiety, we step into a world of virtually unlimited possibility and satisfaction. It is imperative to recognize the differences between fear and faith. Fear is a learned response whereas faith is instinctual. What do you need in order to overcome the fear? Simple child-like faith and trust in God, which enables you to make a leap of faith despite your fear. Faith starts with a belief God will take care of us. We ought to have faith. Call on whatever form of Higher Power you believe in, asking for insight, support, and grace to overcome your fears and anxiety.

Of all base passions, fear is the most accursed.
                                                                               --William Shakespeare

Fear is the most common negative emotion. It is universal. It drains away our physical and mental energy. Fear is a great stumbling block to progress. The origin, type and intensity of fear vary from person to person. Nevertheless, fear haunts us all. It is a great shame that despite our inherent divinity, we continue to be held hostage by the psychosis of fear.

Fear begets anxiety. Anxiety together with doubt and indecisiveness plays havoc with our physical and mental health. Fear hampers initiative, suppresses skill, strangles ingenuity and in the process curbs our natural instinct of marching towards higher level of consciousness. The science of introversion says that so long as we continue to identify ourselves with gross body and subtle mind and intellect, fear will keep chasing us like a shadow.

“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.” –Marie Curie

Fear keeps us in constant state of agitation and turmoil. Fear gives birth to mental weakness which results in constant stress and strain. It brings misery and misfortune. Weakness is death. Cowards die many times before death. Weakness emanating from fear makes us live life under delusion. Delusion limits us to the body-mind complex. Deluded, we continue to suffer in the cauldron of fear and weakness. The moment a person becomes aware of his true divine nature it would instantly dawn on him that there is nothing in this world that he really need to fear.
Fear of failure is the shortest route to defeat and ultimately how we think determines what we do. In every walk of life, only if we channelise our energy positively and shun negativity can we can achieve our full potential. Believe me only good train of thoughts will take you to great destination. In life, as in game of chess, one needs forethoughts to win. Fear is simply lack of faith. It doesn’t mean you do not have faith in God. It means you lack faith in what God can do for you.

“I have often been afraid, but I wouldn’t give in to it. I made myself act as though I was not afraid, and gradually my fear disappeared.”                                       --- Theodore Roosevelt

Fear is one of the greatest problems in life. A mind that is caught in fear lives in confusion, in conflict, and therefore must be violent, distorted, and aggressive. Fear is the root cause of all misery in the world which devours our strength. We do all sorts of silly things because we have accepted to be weak and pliable. In other words, weakness is both the cause and the effect of fear. So it is important to overcome weakness and embrace courage and strength. Do not blame others for your misery and misfortune. The circumstances in which one is placed are of one's own making. You are what you have made yourself. You alone can undo it. None will do it for you. Grumbling and brooding over failures and weaknesses will not help. Do not think you are helpless, bound and shackled by karma. So what, if you have done some wrong in the past — it is never too late to right them and become stronger. Strength has to come from within you. You are an integral constituent of the Infinite Spirit.

One of the major causes of fear is that we do not want to face ourselves as we are.  We often fear the criticism of others and when it does happen, we take it to heart. For this reason, even into adulthood, we're often waiting for someone to tell us it's OK to "cross the street" to our God-given purpose because we are afraid that if we blow it we'll look like an idiot. No matter who you are, or what you want to accomplish, the only leader you need to move toward your purpose is the Holy Spirit. If God is for you, who can be against you?  Which also begs the question, "Why do we fear criticism?"
Just as peas and carrots, rice and beans, and peanut butter and jelly go together, the fear of criticism and self-protection are also a pair. If you fear criticism—guaranteed—you're also self-protective. But there is a high price to pay for allowing the fear of criticism and self-protection to have their way in our lives and to get hold of our minds.
Can you imagine what Christ's life on earth would have been like if He had been self-protective and feared criticism?

When we fear criticism and are overly self-protective, we miss out on being a gift to others. You see, your purpose is not just about you; it's about many people that God wants to influence and help through you. So if you struggle with criticism and self-protection, get alone with God and ask Him to give you the strength you need to move forward in your purpose in faith. And remember, you are living your life for the approval of just One.

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.”   ---Eleanor Roosevelt

Believe me: There is no satisfaction in this world quite like overcoming fear. If you prepare for a frontal assault by thinking, believing and praying, you have all the ingredients to conquer and overcome fear in your mind and in your heart.
Here are three suggestions to help you to overcome fear:-

1.  We become what we think. Start thinking courage:  There is a law of attraction in this world where like responds to like. If you send out thoughts of fear, what are you going to get back? Fear only.  But, on the contrary, if you think thoughts of courage, then courage will flow to you. The more courageous your thinking, the greater the results will be.

2. Cancel out fear by faith:  Take large “doses” of faith into your mind. Work at it zealously and constantly, with the definite purpose of saturating your very consciousness with faith. Search the Scriptures for passages that express the greatest faith men have ever had. Commit these to memory. Say them over and over, until they take hold of you, as they will, until finally they completely dominate your thinking. In my school “Bishop Cotton”, Simla, I learnt to bear in mind :  “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (Bible: Psalm 34:4). Another is: I will fear no evil: for thou art with me” (Bible: Psalm 23:4).

3. Pray for courage: I believe a person should pray for courage as he prays for his daily bread. God will give it to you, because He will give you Himself.

Most of us have faith in something: In ourselves, someone, a religion, philosophy or science. Without ‘Faith’ we tend to question everything, wasting energy and memory space. Faith provides stability and security to us   and helps us to move forward, providing purpose and meaning to lives. Deep ‘Faith’ can remove fear completely. ‘Faith’ is indeed a great enabling force. This force should be harnessed for making ourselves the better human beings.

I conclude with this verse: Dear Lord, “My fear has trapped and consumed me. But I am tired of living under the weight of my fears. This verse reassures me of your presence and confirms that you are able to deliver me from my trouble. Please give me your love and your power to replace these fears. Your perfect love casts out my fear. I thank you for promising to give me the peace that only you can give. I receive that peace now as I ask you to still my troubled heart. Because you are with me, I don't have to be afraid”.  Amen.
